PSA: Breonna Taylor is NOT a Meme

Last month I wrote an article dedicated to Breonna Taylor to shed light on black women’s stories and what we can do to help bring Breonna Taylor justice. Since last month, there has been some progress made to Taylor’s case including the passing of Breonna’s law. However, during this time Taylor’s name has become desensitized due to the posting of countless memes in an effort to “keep her name trending.” Here are some examples of what I am talking about:

In my opinion, posting a meme about Breonna Taylor is doing absolutely nothing for her. Many people may find memes helpful, but I find them unproductive. People are using memes to “keep her name trending” while at the same time using her death as a way to be “trendy” as if it is a joke. I agree that keeping her name trending is a good thing, but there needs to be a better approach, and posting memes is not an approach that will arrest the cops that killed Breonna Taylor.

Instead of posting memes, I encourage you all to stay updated on the case and continue to put pressure on the Louisville Police Department and Attorney General of Kentucky Daniel Cameron who is conducting the investigation on Taylor’s case. Many people posting Breonna Taylor memes don't even know the officials over the case nor the details as to WHY her killers have not been arrested. Yall are really just posting memes. So here are some updates in regards to her case and the officials over her case:

Updates on Breonna Taylor’s case

This is Attorney General of Kentucky Daniel Cameron. He is a black Republican who has been endorsed by President Trump. His office is investigating Breonna Taylor’s case. When I heard that it was a black man over Taylor’s case I became a little optimistic, but after learning that he is a Republican, is endorsed by President Trump, and has a white fiancé, my hope died.

As of July 13th, 2020, four months after the death of Breonna Taylor, Attorney General Daniel Cameron states that he has “no timeline” for when his office will conclude the investigation on Taylor’s case and asks the public to be patient.

Clearly, Attorney General Daniel Cameron is taking his time and that's why there needs to be pressure applied. His lack of transparency to the public is concerning to me. He has not given us any hope or has shown that Taylor’s case is a matter of concern to him.

Thankfully, there have been protests in Louisville outside of the Attorney General's home to demand the arrests of the cops that killed Breonna Taylor.

Furthermore, these are the cops involved in the shooting of Breonna Taylor who have yet to be arrested. From left to right their names are Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove. Know their names; know their faces.
