Mission

Our mission is to showcase aesthetic and authentic activism through artistic expression.

Goals

Our goals are to empower, educate, and encourage BLACK voices and other marginalized groups through art, inspiring them to make positive changes in their lives and communities in order to design and transform institutions that embrace every person regardless of race or any other differences that seek to divide us.

About the Founder

Nateya Taylor is a 23-year-old Milwaukee native and entrepreneur who is passionate about racial and health equity. She graduated from Carthage College with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in May 2020 and completed her undergraduate senior thesis in December 2019, “Milwaukee Black Health: How Criminal Justice and Public Policy Collude to Disadvantage Black Milwaukeeans,” which explores the negative impacts of residential segregation on Black health. After graduating, she worked for the City of Racine as a Racial Equity Fellow in Climate Resilience Planning where she conducted a community needs assessment in the City of Racine to learn about the environmental racism and challenges residents were facing. She plans to continue her research that intersects residential segregation and health equity as an Urban Studies Master’s student in Fall 2021.

Outside of her research and studies, Nateya is a creative. She is a writer who writes blog articles, poetry, screenplays, and does a little freestyle rap and singing on the side when no one is watching. She is excited to continue building her brand “Naesthetycs” which she hopes will empower, educate, and encourage BLACK folks and other marginalized groups to be activists in their own lives and communities.

History

Naesthetycs started off as a social justice blog under the name “Yungmalcolmx” on Tumblr. The founder, Nateya Taylor started the blog as a sophomore in college to discuss topics that were not being discussed on her predominately white campus. She released her first article, “What Year Did Slavery End” on November 27th, 2017 and continued to write about topics she was passionate about to educate others. After a few years of writing for the blog, she decided to turn it into the brand now known as “Naesthetycs” to showcase activism through multiple forms of artistic expression.
